An Amlodipine Lawsuit – Problems in Using the Medication and the Class Action Lawsuit

A number of lawsuits have been filed in the case of Amlodipine lawsuit, where the drug was found to be responsible for the death of an ADHD child. The attorney who is handling this case has described the effects that this prescription drug had on the boy and his parents, causing them great stress and grief. Amlodipine is a blood pressure medication used in the treatment of hypertension and atherosclerosis, among other conditions. It was taken by the boy’s parents to treat their diagnosed condition of hyperactivity, impulsivity and lack of concentration as well as other symptoms that were thought to be related to their ADHD.

An Amlodipine Lawsuit

The parents had both tested negative for ADHD, but still felt that their child could be affected by certain side effects caused by taking the medicine. When asked about the side effects that they had noticed after taking Amlodipine, the boy’s parents had some vague recollections of being extremely sleepy and having difficulty concentrating. His parents said that they did not detect any other effects of the drug other than those which had been noted by the medical personnel during the post Amlodipine interview. Subsequently, the FDA and the company responsible for producing Amlodipine recalled the medicine all together, stating that there had been no evidence that the drug was safe and effective when used without proper consultation from a physician. These recalled high blood pressure medications are known as brand names; however, they are produced by different pharmaceutical companies.

The FDA had conducted a number of studies on Amlodipine and had found that there were no major or potential side effects associated with the medication.

The agency had also concluded that there had been no changes in the heart rate or blood pressure of people who had taken the medicine. There had been no reports of lost weight or severe weight loss in patients and there was no report of abnormal heart rhythm, chest pain or unusual bruising. Thus, the FDA concluded that it was probably safe to use as directed.

However, a class action lawsuit brought against Amerindipine, Solco healthcare and their related companies by plaintiffs in the state of Ohio, claimed that Amlodipine was dangerous and caused many health related problems.

These problems included, but were not limited to, stroke, aneurysms, congestive heart failure, impotence and diabetes. The plaintiffs’ attorney, Robert H. Katz, claimed that the manufacturer, Amerindipine, knew that its product caused these conditions, yet sold the medicine anyway, despite knowing that it was dangerous. Additionally, the company did not offer any guarantee to the purchasers of Amlodipine, that they would not develop any negative side effects. Furthermore, there were no clinical trials which could verify that Amlodipine was safe and effective.

The plaintiffs filed suit against Amerindipine, Solco Healthcare and their distributor, Jansport, saying that they knew that Amlodipine caused high blood pressure, aneurysms, congestive heart failure and other problems, yet sold the medicine anyway.

These plaintiffs were members of a class-action lawsuit which alleged that the manufacturers of Amlodipine, Solco Healthcare, and Jansport, misstated medical facts and failed to provide adequate warnings about the potential risk of this drug. These plaintiffs were awarded a settlement amount of $3.75 million. The reason for the tremendous success of this class action lawsuit is because plaintiffs were able to receive a large settlement when a lot of people who had been personally affected by Amlodipine signed up as a class action lawsuit. The National Institutes of Health and the Food and Drug Administration are currently conducting studies to determine if the claims made in the lawsuit are valid. Therefore, more lawsuits may arise in the future.

There have been other drugs which have caused or are suspected of causing some cases of high blood pressure, strokes and other cardiovascular problems, so it is not unheard of that another drug causing similar results could be introduced into the market.

However, the Food and Drug Administration has enacted regulations to try to prevent this from happening. The FDA has also sued manufacturers of a blood pressure medication recall due to dioxin contamination. Dioxane is believed to have been a possible factor in the development of mesothelioma. This lawsuit was later overturned, but this only left more questions unanswered about what caused the recall.

  2. I have suffered with severe cramping all over my body including my neck. Constant Tiredness ,A blood vessel behind my right eye leaked and I must have injections in my eyeball regularly. I suffered water weight in my legs ankles flooded my lungs and caused drop in my creatinine levels and injury to my kidney. I now must be seen regularly by a nephrologist, cardiologist, ophthalmologist as well as my primary care doctor. I went to urgent care center on Mother’s Day 2022, my weight had increased from 182 to 200 lbs. in three days. I was told by that dr. To stop amlodipine and continue lasix three times daily. Three days before this visit my primary care physician added Lasix to my regimen of amlodipine. He explained the amlodipine was causing my problems and if this continued I should go to ER.
I was hospitalized for six days. Amlodipine was discontinued and I had to adjust to new medication to control blood pressure. I went through hell for two to three years going to doctors to find out what was wrong. I was not made aware of the symptoms associated with this medication. Since med change the cramps, swelling, tiredness and headaches have subsided.

  3. Amlodipine resulted in an atrioventricular block and my heart completely stopped working and I am now 100% dependent on a pacemaker. How do I contact you for help?

  4. Amlodipine Besylate 10mg combined with Carvadilol and Atvorstatin over four years caused my rt shoulder and left hip abductorcuff to spontaneously rupture Feb 13, 2019. My doctor’s denied me diagnostic care MRI only an x-ray taken before the rupture. I had to fight with everyone u til my Humana told my doc to do a MRI. It could have been surgically repaired by arthroscopy only on hip My left I bicep is 95% torn only shoulder replacement for that. The doc called after seeing MRI finally and asked me “Barbara what did YOU do?!” I didnothing but take my meds, trust my doc, then get blamed,. Now I am permanently in a wheel chair. The hip tear is deep, wide, long, chronic, permanent. I live in Florida. Can you help hold my doctor’s accountable? Please.

  5. They won’t do arthroscopy for hip only a replacement. All this because of greed. Shoulder, only replacement. It’s all about getting me in for more appointments, blood draws, more scripts with no regard for prescribed drug commitment issues, like the potential for rabdomylosis. The ruptured were worse than childbirth, more like surgery without anesthesia a knife cutting me
for three and a half hours.

  6. Was on Amlodipine for 6 mo’s. Had a colonoscopy with 2 polyps removed. Four months later I was diagnosed with Lymphoma. Does Amlodipine inhibit apoptosis and suppress immune system? Cancer?

  7. Amlodipine can cause the most horrible anxiety and panic attacks. I suffered while taking the medicine after a few months then stopped it and it takes months to feel even a little normal again. This medicine affects the brain in a bad way and should be outlawed. I would love to sue for the distress I experienced from taking this medicine which was a nightmare.

  8. I have reason to believe that this medication is responsible for the death of my mother over 18 months ago. And I’m telling everyone that is on this medication to GET THE F*** OFF RIGHT NOW, because the benefits are not worth the risk. My mother was prescribed Amlodipine (10mg) that she took everyday for a year due to a congenital heart murmur. My mom’s blood pressure was extremely high for years and this was one of the first to bring it back to normal. However the symptoms mimic much of what has been shared in the above article: migraines, joint pain, night sweats, excessive sleepiness, dizziness, fainting, dry mouth, dry skin, personality changes (i.e. finding odd things funny), forgetfulness and low-grade depression. As my mom kept taking this medication the side effects worsened. Right before she passed away, me, my mom, my dad, and my brother were all having dinner together, as a family. Three hours later, Mom took a shower and went to sleep, and the next morning she was lying face up in bed, unresponsive. She wasn’t breathing. My dad and I tried all means to revive her (including CPR) but she was dead by the time paramedics arrived. And guess what, an autopsy revealed that a stroke was the official cause of death for my mom. If I had known how serious the side effects of this medication were, I would have advised Mom not to take it. Don’t make the same mistake my mom did and wait for the doctor to tell you if and when to do so. This sh*t is not safe for human consumption. It should be banned altogether. Natural medicine is always the best medicine.

  9. I have reasons to believe this medication has affected my gums causing gum disease…my hands were swollen, and pains all over my body…l know have a $25,000.00 dental ? cost for implants and treatment….since stop taking the medication no pain, no fatigue only the stress of the implants costs…l have seen a doctor explaining the effects of Amlodipine Besylate and the side effects of gum disease…the exact symptoms I have after taking this medication…

  10. My mom was on amlodipine for a couple of months and experienced, extremely strong heart pounding, a tight banding pressure in her head, no appetite, when she stands up from sitting down, the symptoms mentioned and more immediately start, her blood pressure rises to over 212, we have been to the emergency room 2x and had the paramedics come to the house several times. She has since been off the amlodipine and experiencing the same symptoms almost as if she is still taking the amlodipine. I believe the amlodipine has damaged her system and is still causing these horrible symptoms. She feel like any day is her last day, she has no quality of life. What attorney can I talk to make a claim against amlodipine makers and distributors.

  11. I’ve been on amlodipine for over 3 years and I had a stroke 3 years ago my left side is messed up and my legs swell up and arms I didn’t know they had a recall

On February 14 -2022 I was diagnosed with a aneurysm 1.2 cm on my cardiac artery on the left side of my brain if it bursts I will die. My glands were clogged and I keep gaining weight and swelling. I’m getting better now that I’m not taking the Amlodipine!!!!! Theresa Wright xxx2432088.

  13. I have used this drug, Amlopipine, for about 25 years! My legs have always held a lot of water and I’ve had to go to the bathroom every hour or so through the night for at least 20 years. The doctors kept giving me more water pills to get rid of the edema. Just recently I was admitted to the hospital for heart failure and the water retention and they took me off the Amlopipine because IT CAUSES WATER RETENTION IN THE LEGS! I found that Heart Failure is another major side effect of this drug and I was very healthy before. I would like to be added to any lawsuits and for myself, if any Lawyers can help me.
